It is best known for the Kakori Conspiracy, which was a plot by Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) members to loot the British government treasury Train in August 1925. The conspiracy was hatched in Kakori and the plan was put into action on 9th August 1925, when the HRA members stopped the train and looted it of all the money that was being transported in it. The Kakori Conspiracy was one of the first steps taken by the HRA towards their
goal of independence from British rule.
